TN: Immigration Bills Advance in Tennessee House..A slate of bills aimed at curbing illegal immigration were approved by a state House committee Tuesday evening. The bills would allow police to question the legal status of anyone they stop and would require employers to use the federal E-verify system to validate the citizenship status of all employees.

  1. Two pieces of legislation sponsored by state Rep. Joe Carr designed to curb illegal immigration passed the House State & Local Government Committee this afternoon.

    Carr's E-Verify bill would require Tennessee employers to use the U.S Department of Homeland Security's electronic system to verify that hires are U.S. citizens.

    The other bill would prohibit illegal aliens from receiving any local, state or federal government entitlements.
