Missouri Governor Jay "McLovin" Nixon's veto of the Republican-sponsored Voter photo ID bill

Missouri Governor Jay "McLovin" Nixon's veto of the Republican-sponsored Voter photo ID bill...Nixon said the photo ID requirement would have hurt senior citizens and people with disabilities who are qualified to vote but less likely to have a driver's license or other government-issued photo ID. "Disenfranchising certain classes of persons is not acceptable," he said.

NC: BREAKING: Perdue vetoes voter ID bill

NC: BREAKING: Perdue vetoes voter ID bill...HB351 would require a person arriving at a voting precinct to show one of eight forms of photo ID, including a new voter card available for free from county election boards. Without the ID, people could still cast provisional ballots but would have to prove their identity later....most North Carolina residents back the idea of an ID requirement to vote and said it wouldn't prevent anyone from voting lawfully. "Gov. Perdue’s latest veto is the clearest example yet that she is out of touch with North Carolinians...(btw...Perdue is a Democrat)

Ohio: Photo ID up for a vote

Ohio: Photo ID up for a vote...A Republican-led Senate committee added the ID requirement to the bill Tuesday, despite Democratic objections that the provision would lead to voter suppression. The Ohio League of Women Voters' Peg Rosenfield believes it will force more people to cast ballots by mail. She points out the only examples of fraud have been mail fraud. [If you define “voter suppression” as in preventing illegal aliens and bused-in out-of-staters from voting, then I am all for it!]

US court reconsiders ruling on Arizona voter law

US court reconsiders ruling on Arizona voter law...The latest court battle between AZ and the federal government is being fought in a Pasadena, CA courtroom where an appeals court will hear arguments TODAY on whether the state can require proof of citizenship to register to vote. An 11-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is reconsidering a three-judge panel’s ruling that the state’s proof of citizenship requirement conflicts with federal voter registration law that law allows people registering to vote to swear under penalty of perjury that they are citizens. AZ’s law goes further, requiring that people registering show proof of citizenship. It was part of a ballot measure approved by voters in 2004.

PA: H.B. 934 Plan would assure integrity of elections

PA: H.B. 934 Plan would assure integrity of elections...Pennsylvania has a long and ongoing history of documented voter fraud — pre-dating even the frequently forged signature of Mickey Mouse to at least the election of 1918..Law-abiding citizens, who take the time to actively participate in the election process, deserve the assurance that their right to vote is protected and that every informed vote they cast will be counted. Authenticating voter ownership by requiring the display of valid photo ID is precisely what enacting H.B. 934 will accomplish..State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, a Republican who represents the 12th District in Butler County, is majority chairman of the House State Government Committee (btw...Indiana and Georgia, where showing valid photo ID at the polls is now law, voter turnout has increased to record levels, especially among the elderly, minorities and Democrats)

It Is Easier To Vote Than to Get Hired Without a Proper I.D.

It Is Easier To Vote Than to Get Hired Without a Proper I.D....A national retail chain treats eligibility to work more seriously than the Federal Government treats eligibility to vote... Why should Arizona not be allowed to make voters prove their citizenship when voter fraud is clearly a big problem in that state? One may make the argument that making voters prove their citizenship may discourage underrepresented groups from voting. That is a good point, but any engaged citizen who cares enough to vote would not baulk at bringing his/her passport or birth certificate to the polling station.

NC Senate Approves Bill Requiring Photo ID to Vote

NC Senate Approves Bill Requiring Photo ID to Vote...Republican-backed legislation requiring North Carolina voters to show picture identification before casting a ballot they know will count is headed Thursday to Gov. Beverly Perdue's desk, and fellow Democrats urged her to veto the measure...The House agreed to minor changes to the bill approved Wednesday night by the Senate. If Perdue is serious about protecting the integrity of elections instead of scoring political points with her liberal base, she will sign this bill. Let’s wait and see if the governor vetoes this one. 75% of all voters want a photo ID bill and believe it will add confidence and help ensure every vote is a valid and legal vote

South Carolina man says new photo ID law will prevent him from voting

South Carolina man says new photo ID law will prevent him from voting... Larry Butler told SC Progressive Network that South Carolina’s new voter photo ID law will prevent him from voting. The state won’t issue him a driver’s license because he can’t produce the necessary documentation. Butler does not have a birth certificate because he was not born in a hospital and the elementary school he attended burnt down many years ago so the required records are not available. Opponents argue that voter photo ID laws unfairly target minorities and the poor who are less likely to have photo identification.

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne blasts Obama Administration on court filing

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne blasts Obama Administration on court filing.. "First, the Obama Administration fails to do its job on the border. Then it sues Arizona to prevent us from helping to fight illegal immigration. Then it tries to create a false sense of complacency by arguing that the border is safe, when it isn't. "Now it argues that persons should be able to register to vote without providing adequate information enabling verification of citizenship, thus enabling illegal aliens to register to vote. This is contrary to the interests of the people of the United State of America."

NC: Groups Mobilize to Pass Legislation in NC to Control Illegal Immigration

NC: Groups Mobilize to Pass Legislation in NC to Control Illegal Immigration...Several national and statewide groups are asking supporters to call members of the North Carolina General Assembly today to lobby lawmakers to pass three bills that could help curtail illegal immigration in the state. HB36, which requires businesses with more than 24 employees to use the E-verify program to prevent illegal alien hiring, is scheduled for a vote by the NC State House today at 2pm. HB 643 is a voter ID bill that would help prevent more illegal aliens from voting illegally in NC elections and will be discussed at 11am by members of the House Appropriations committee. SB 205, which would stop illegal aliens from receiving taxpayer benefits like welfare, will be voted on in the Senate Judiciary 2 committee this afternoon at 4:30.

Photo ID, Fingerprints, Retinal Eye Scans and Voting in America

Photo ID, Fingerprints, Retinal Eye Scans and Voting in America..Apparently, the most cherished thing we have in our democratic republic, the right to vote, is taken less seriously than the right to smoke, drink or take drugs. Maybe if we added some nicotine, alcohol or pseudoepinephrine to the ballot to lick before we voted, then maybe we could get photo IDs into the public elective process where they belong.

Texas Governor Rick Perry on Friday signed Voter I.D. Law

Texas Governor Rick Perry on Friday signed Voter I.D. Law...making Texas the twelfth state to require photo identification from voters..The measure was one of the Republican governor's "emergency" legislative priorities for the session, and he's not alone. Accusations from Hispancially Speaking News: Republicans Aiming to Take Away Voting Rights in 36 States

Accusations from Hispancially Speaking News: Republicans Aiming to Take Away Voting Rights in 36 States..More evidence that Republicans are determined to grab as much power as they can at the expense of everyone but the rich. Not satisfied with attacking the rights of workers, Republicans in 36 states are going after the most sacred American right-the right to vote. The "We Party" reports that through a myriad of proposals, they are trying to suppress the votes of traditionally Democratic voters, including minorities, the poor, people who live in rural areas, seniors and students. (IN OTHER WORDS, THEY OPPOSE VOTER I.D.)

Minnesota governor vetoes voter identification bill (OMG!)...Democratic Governor Mark Dayton on Thursday vetoed a bill that would have required voters to provide photo identification to cast votes. Dayton cited a lack of broad bi-partisan support for the bill and its potential as a $23 million unfunded mandate on local governments in part for his veto

Wisconsin: Gov. Scott Walker signs Voter ID bill into law

Wisconsin: Gov. Scott Walker signs Voter ID bill into law...About 50 protesters yelled "Recall Walker!" outside the room where Walker signed it. It marks the end of an 8-year push by Republicans to enact the photo ID requirement. They passed it 3 times when Democrat Jim Doyle was governor, but he vetoed it each time. The requirement to show a photo ID when voting would take effect next year, but other changes affecting absentee voting and the ability to vote take effect immediately and will be in force for recall elections this summer
