NC: BREAKING: Perdue vetoes voter ID bill...HB351 would require a person arriving at a voting precinct to show one of eight forms of photo ID, including a new voter card available for free from county election boards. Without the ID, people could still cast provisional ballots but would have to prove their identity later....most North Carolina residents back the idea of an ID requirement to vote and said it wouldn't prevent anyone from voting lawfully. "Gov. Perdue’s latest veto is the clearest example yet that she is out of touch with North Carolinians...(btw...Perdue is a Democrat)

Ohio: Photo ID up for a vote
Ohio: Photo ID up for a vote...A Republican-led Senate committee added the ID requirement to the bill Tuesday, despite Democratic objections that the provision would lead to voter suppression. The Ohio League of Women Voters' Peg Rosenfield believes it will force more people to cast ballots by mail. She points out the only examples of fraud have been mail fraud. [If you define “voter suppression” as in preventing illegal aliens and bused-in out-of-staters from voting, then I am all for it!]

AG Tom Horne to defend proof of citizenship requirement for Ariz. voter registration
AG Tom Horne to defend proof of citizenship requirement for Ariz. voter registration...The state’s top lawyer will attempt Tuesday to save a key provision from the state’s first voter-approved initiative aimed at illegal aliens. Arizona can impose a requirement to produce proof of citizenship to register to vote, Attorney General Tom Horne will argue. More to the point, Horne, who is arguing the case personally, contends the mandate does not run afoul of federal law.

SCOTUS won't hear ACORN lawsuit over gov't funding
SCOTUS won't hear ACORN lawsuit over gov't funding...The Supreme Court won't hear an appeal from ACORN, the activist group driven to ruin by scandal and financial woes, over being banned from getting federal funds. The high court on Monday refused to review a federal court's decision to uphold Congress's ban on federal funds for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. Congress cut off ACORN's federal funding last year in response to allegations the group engaged in voter registration fraud and embezzlement and violated the tax-exempt status of some of its affiliates by engaging in partisan political activities. ACORN sued, but the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York City upheld the action. The high court refused to hear its appeal.

It Is Easier To Vote Than to Get Hired Without a Proper I.D.
It Is Easier To Vote Than to Get Hired Without a Proper I.D....A national retail chain treats eligibility to work more seriously than the Federal Government treats eligibility to vote... Why should Arizona not be allowed to make voters prove their citizenship when voter fraud is clearly a big problem in that state? One may make the argument that making voters prove their citizenship may discourage underrepresented groups from voting. That is a good point, but any engaged citizen who cares enough to vote would not baulk at bringing his/her passport or birth certificate to the polling station.

Tucson, AZ: Social Justice Groups plan Nationwide protest
Tucson, AZ: Social Justice Groups plan Nationwide protest... The groups present included Derechos Humanos, Humane Borders, Border Action Network, members of the Pima County Interfaith Council, The Brown Berets, MEChA and others. All of the groups that met, puportedly backed by union organizers and members of Mi Familia Vota, are quietly registering people to vote using the empty foreclosed homes in Pima County as their address. they will choose a day in the near future where families that have registered to vote at these addresses will occupy the homes all on the same day, file numerous documents with the County claiming ownership through obscure homesteading laws thus overwhelming the County Recorders office, the banks that own the notes and the Pima County Sheriffs Office that would try to evict them..This plan is being coordinated throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas. All states with numerous foreclosures in the Southwest.

Accusations from Hispancially Speaking News: Republicans Aiming to Take Away Voting Rights in 36 States
Accusations from Hispancially Speaking News: Republicans Aiming to Take Away Voting Rights in 36 States..More evidence that Republicans are determined to grab as much power as they can at the expense of everyone but the rich. Not satisfied with attacking the rights of workers, Republicans in 36 states are going after the most sacred American right-the right to vote. The "We Party" reports that through a myriad of proposals, they are trying to suppress the votes of traditionally Democratic voters, including minorities, the poor, people who live in rural areas, seniors and students. (IN OTHER WORDS, THEY OPPOSE VOTER I.D.)

IL: East St. Louis: More Voters Registered Than Citizens That Live There
IL: East St. Louis: More Voters Registered Than Citizens That Live There...It is a particular problem with our voter registration systems across the USA that the voting roles are so filled with ineligible names that we aren’t sure how many voters really live in any particular district. East St. Louis is no different. According to the 2010 Census, East St. Louis had a total population of 27,006. The population for those 18 and over, or those eligible to vote, was 19,098. With 22,000 registered voters, it seems to be a numerical impossibility for East St. Louis’ Board of Elections to have an accurate or legal list of register voters

AZ: Awaiting Governor's decision, Tucson's mail-in elections hang in the balance
AZ: Awaiting Governor's decision, Tucson's mail-in elections hang in the balance..SB 1331 could prohibit Tucson from having mail ballot elections...In August, voters will still have the option of going to the polls in Tucson, but the number of polling places will be drastically cut back..If the Governor does sign the bill by the Monday, May 2 deadline, The matter could still all be settled through litigation in the Arizona Supreme Court..State Representative Ted Vogt said. Vogt added an amendment to 1331 only allowing mail-in elections for cities, towns and school districts with non-partisan elections. On a Tucson ballot, candidates are identified by political party."What my amendment does is preserves the status quo. And what is that, Tucsonans can vote by early ballot mail-in, or go to the polls,"

Shocker: 14 Illinois Counties Have More Registered Voters Than Eligible Voters..The report says the disparity was revealed by comparing the number of registered voters in each county to the number of people listed in the 2010 Census as being older than 18 and eligible to vote.
