South Carolina: Police status checks to become law...The bill also will create a statewide illegal immigrant police force, operating under the state Department of Public Safety..In most cases, a valid S.C. driver’s license will be enough for individuals to prove they are in the country legally..a driver’s license would not be good enough for S.C. business owners who want to hire a new worker. Under the bill passed by the S.C. House Tuesday, business owners must run the name of all new employees through a federal database – called E-verify – to ensure they are in the country legally. If business owners fail to use the system or if they intentionally employ illegal workers, they could be shut down..the bill is headed to Gov. Nikki Haley’s desk..The Republican governor will sign the proposal into law

The governor said Wednesday the Taxation and Revenue Department and its Motor Vehicle Division will recommend changes in the documents that foreign nationals must submit as identification and proof that they are New Mexico residents. USCIS and Mississippi Implement New E-Verify Tool to Combat Fraud (Driver's Licenses)
USCIS and Mississippi Implement New E-Verify Tool to Combat Fraud (Driver's Licenses) Will improves Accuracy and Integrity of E-Verify by Validating Driver’s License Data.. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) today launched Records and Information from DMVs for E-Verify (RIDE), a new feature which allows USCIS’s E-Verify program to validate the authenticity of Mississippi driver’s licenses used by employees as Form I-9 identity documents. “RIDE reflects our commitment to continually improving E-Verify,” said USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas. “This important enhancement strengthens E-Verify’s anti-fraud capabilities and will play a key role in helping employers in the U.S. maintain a legal workforce.”

TX: SB9 Sanctuary Cities Moves Out of Senate Committee
TX: SB9 Sanctuary Cities Moves Out of Senate Committee...Less than a week after Gov. Rick Perry added the measure to the special session agenda, the contentious “sanctuary cities” bill is one step closer to what lawmakers see as its inevitable passage...seeks to prevent cities, counties and other special districts from banning law enforcement from inquiring into the status of individuals lawfully detained or arrested. The bill would also expand the federal government’s Secure Communities program to include all detention facilities (it’s currently in use in every county jail) and codify stricter guidelines for legal residents applying for state issued driver’s licenses or IDs.

South Carolina man says new photo ID law will prevent him from voting
South Carolina man says new photo ID law will prevent him from voting... Larry Butler told SC Progressive Network that South Carolina’s new voter photo ID law will prevent him from voting. The state won’t issue him a driver’s license because he can’t produce the necessary documentation. Butler does not have a birth certificate because he was not born in a hospital and the elementary school he attended burnt down many years ago so the required records are not available. Opponents argue that voter photo ID laws unfairly target minorities and the poor who are less likely to have photo identification.

Tennessee Employers with 6 or more Employees are Required to Use E-Verify
Tennessee Employers with 6 or more Employees are Required to Use E-Verify..Gov. Bill Haslam has signed legislation that seeks to make sure Tennessee employees are legally authorized to work in the U.S. The measure is a weaker version of its original, which mandated all employers use the federal E-Verify program to prove their employees are legally in the country. The proposal the Republican governor signed into law on Tuesday exempts employers with five or fewer employees and allows them to keep a copy of the new hire’s driver’s license instead of using E-Verify.

NM: Roosevelt County Commissioners oppose licenses, ID's for illegals
NM: Roosevelt County Commissioners oppose licenses, ID's for illegals...Approved a resolution supporting the discontinuation of issuing driver licenses and identification cards to illegal aliens. Commissioner..Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Malin Parker said illegal aliens getting driver licenses was a “huge safety issue.” The requirements for them to get a license are much less strict than for a citizen, he said, and violent criminals could easily get licenses under a false name with forged documents...law enforcement in neighboring states had started looking more closely at New Mexico driver licenses because they were issued to illegal aliens.

They contended the use of multiple languages violates Alabama's Constitution, which says English is the official language. The plaintiffs lost in Montgomery County Circuit Court. Then they appealed to the state Supreme Court, which ruled in March that the lower court decision would stand.
