SC: GOP leaders urge action: Senate pushed to reconvene to address immigration

SC: GOP leaders urge action: Senate pushed to reconvene to address immigration...The leaders of three county Republican parties came together Saturday morning to urge the state Senate to reconvene to finish passing immigration and government restructuring bills. Gov. Nikki Haley(R) has ordered the Senate back into session Tuesday to finalize a bill creating a Department of Administration that would replace the Budget and Control Board. Sen. Glenn McConnell(R) of Charleston has said her order is unconstitutional and he plans to file a challenge in the state Supreme Court Monday morning.

Baton Rouge, LA: Lawmakers approve Arizona-style immigration bill

Baton Rouge, LA: Lawmakers approve Arizona-style immigration bill...A sweeping immigration proposal, similar to a controversial Arizona law, has received approval from a House committee — despite major legal concerns. Independent Ernest Wooton says his bill would help secure the borders. But law enforcement officers oppose the measure because of costs for incarceration and officer training. Immigration advocates say the bill, which heads next to the House floor, would prompt an immediate lawsuit.

Arkansas: One state's struggle with immigration...Dems control both chambers

Arkansas: One state's struggle with immigration...Dems control both chambers...lawmakers found little traction this year with efforts to address illegal immigration at the state level..Despite a push by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to address immigration, a series of proposals were rejected or stalled during the legislative session that ended last month. From efforts to crack down on contractors hiring illegal aliens to a measure aimed at cutting off most state services for illegal aliens, there were virtually no successes for lawmakers who said the issue needed to be addressed.

Florida's attempt to pass an Arizona-style immigration law appears doomed

Florida's attempt to pass an Arizona-style immigration law appears doomed..Senate President Mike Haridopolos, could still force the Senate to vote on the House version of the bill, but he has yet to make a final decision on the matter.. The sponsor of the immigration bill in the Florida House is Will Snyder. He said it would be extremely difficult to get the necessary 80 votes in the House after the Florida Senate rejected a vote on his bill and instead passed a less-strict version. "We had a majority for my bill," E-Verify failed in the Senate.
