Florida Legislature can't make immigration-bill deal (SB 2040 and HB 7098 dead)..

Florida Legislature can't make immigration-bill deal (SB2040 and HB7098 dead)..SB 2040 and HB 7098 allowed police to act as immigration officials and verify the immigration status of people they take into custody. The bills also required employers to corroborate job applicants’ immigration status through the federal E-Verify Program...Gov. Rick Scott said that lawmakers should have passed an immigration bill — but there’s always next year..(illegals and pro-illegal groups are celebrating)

Will Florida Become a ‘Jobs Magnet’ for ILLEGALS?

Will Florida Become a ‘Jobs Magnet’ for ILLEGALS? Lawmakers will be working well into the night tonight to try to finish the legislative session..Passage of SB2040, the immigration reform bill, remains elusive. The more conservative Florida House wants a tougher bill than the Florida Senate seems to be able to pass. Conservatives want all employers in the state to check new hires against a federal database, also known as E-verify. The Senate was not able to pass that provision though..

Help Needed in Florida to Pass E-Verify

Help Needed in Florida to Pass E-Verify..The E-Verify language of SB2040 is grossly deficient so the Senate should adopt the strong mandatory E-Verify language of HB7089..There are 1.1 million unemployed in Florida while about 825,000 illegal aliens hold Florida jobs...Illegal immigration in Florida is estimated to cost $5.5 billion annually and E-Verify will reduce these costs over time. Florida has a $4 billion budget deficit and and E-Verify will reduce these costs over time.

FL: E-Verify Bill (SB2040) Dying a Slow Death in Florida Senate..bill must clear the Senate Budget Committee by day's end, according to the latest timetable. Still bottled up by Chairman J.D. Alexander, the heavily amended measure would require employers to use the federal E-Verify database or Real ID-compliant driver's license identification to screen new hires. The driver's license alternative was added by Judiciary Chairwoman Anitere Flores, but the addition has not garnered support.

Division over proposed immigration reform ((SB2040 and (HB7089).ramped up in the Capitol on Wednesday as illegal alien students and other immigrants staged a sit-in in Senate President Mike Haridopolos' office and national advocates pushed for a boycott of Florida. Students chanted, "We are Florida," said the pledge of allegiance and lined the walls outside Haridopolos' office and the entrance to the Senate chambers as students sought in vain to get a pledge from the Republican leader to oppose a proposal by the Florida House to create an Arizona-style law. The group, led by St. Thomas University student Felipe Matos, was escorted out of Haridopolos' office at 5 p.m.
