Utah Housewife Deals Devastating Blow to State's 'Guestworker' Law (HB116)

Utah Housewife Deals Devastating Blow to State's 'Guestworker' Law (HB116)
In a stinging rebuke to political, business, religious and media elites, Republican Party activists led by a Utah housewife have dealt what may well be a deathblow to Utah's misguided and fatally flawed guestworker/amnesty law (HB116)..This past Saturday, June 18, 2011, when the showdown finally came, a majority of delegates (53%) at the Utah state Republican organizing convention sided with the housewife against the elites and passed a resolution...a lone Utah housewife and a handful of dedicated citizens defeated the most powerful interests in the state of Utah, sent the American Principles in Action group limping back to Washington, D.C., and told the nation that Bramnesty is not the "Utah Solution" or a model for federal immigration reform.

UT: Republican delegates pass anti-guest worker resolution

UT: Republican delegates pass anti-guest worker resolution...They arrived with steely resolve, some wearing blue T-shirts festooned with buttons that implored their fellow Republican delegates to honor the Constitution and reject Utah’s guest-worker law. They left with smiles and a sense of confidence that their desire to repeal HB116 through a resolution was on track and that those who supported the guest-worker measure needed to follow their lead either in a special session or during the next legislative session.

Utah: Money wants AMNESTY

Utah: Money wants AMNESTY...At the upcoming Republican state convention, delegates will vote on repealing HB116, Utah’s amnesty bill. The money interests that rushed this bill through the Legislature and convinced the governor to sign it are now lobbying delegates to vote against repeal (“Supporters of Utah guest-worker law launch campaign,” Tribune, June 7). The reason for such a strong push is that the bill is seen as key in the upcoming national campaign to, yet again, push for a national amnesty.

Utah: Guest-worker bill encounters more resistance (HB116)

Utah: Guest-worker bill encounters more resistance (HB116)...A controversial guest-worker bill took two hits this weekend as Republican delegates in Washington County voted in favor of a resolution to repeal it while another group floated a proposal to gut the measure with a substitute version for the next legislative session...Ron Mortensen said the proposed substitute would feature stiffer fines than what HB116 has in place for illegal aliens in Utah, and it also would require those who qualified for the program to leave the U.S. and apply for a visa through the federal government. Unlike HB116, which doesn’t take effect until July 2013, Mortensen said his version wouldn’t take effect until there was congressional approval. “That way, we avoid federal lawsuits,” he said. “You have to do it this way, otherwise you end up in court.”

Open Lettter to President and US Congress: A Reasonable Immigration by John Lillpop

Open Lettter to President and US Congress: A Reasonable Immigration by John Lillpop..Because our government has refused to secure America’s borders and enforce the law, our nation is struggling to deal with tens of millions of illegal aliens who have entered this great nation unlawfully... we must secure the borders permanently, force employers to obey the law, deport those here illegally, and stop making it so easy and attractive for illegal immigrants to invade America. Any amnesty or “guest worker” proposal is NOT an acceptable alternative.

U.S. Attorney General: Utah change immigration law or else

U.S. Attorney General: Utah change immigration law or else... Holder appeared before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday and was pressed by Chairman Lamar Smith, who accused the Justice Department of political favoritism for going after Arizona’s immigration law aggressively but not Utah’s..The attorney general noted that Utah’s guest worker law, HB116, would not kick in without a change in federal law until 2013..“And if it is not changed to our satisfaction by 2013, we will take all the necessary steps,” he said, alluding to a lawsuit.

TN landscaping company sues migrant workers/Mexican Nationals

TN landscaping company sues migrant workers/Mexican Nationals...A Tennessee landscaping company accused of human trafficking, slavery and other violations has responded by countersuing 15 migrant workers for lying about alleged mistreatment.
Vanderbilt Landscaping, which is headquartered in Mason and has some Smyrna-based operations, was sued in March by Mexican nationals who worked for the company under a federal guest worker program. The workers say they were subjected to forced labor, constant surveillance, threats of serious harm and psychological coercion..
company says that investigations by government agencies found that “many, if not all, of plaintiffs’ claims were false and baseless,” and that the bad publicity cost the company a $275,000 contract with Metro Nashville government “for which it appeared to be the successful bidder.”

Utah: RINO Gov. Herbert fires back at critics of Utah's guest worker scheme
...In another statement released in response to Rep. Lamar Smith's letter to Holder, [Utah Gov. Gary] Herbert said: "Typical Washington-attempt to deflect criticism that comes from Washington's abject failure to address immigration, then sue a state over something that won't even take effect for two years, rather than use those two years to do something positive." (POSITIVE?)

Many H-2B (Guest Worker) Petitioners in Counties with High Unemployment

Many H-2B (Guest Worker) Petitioners in Counties with High Unemployment
According to Rather's report, "many of the companies that petitioned for H-2B guest worker visas were located in counties with particularly high unemployment." the H-2B visa allows U.S. employers to hire foreign nationals for non-agricultural labor or service jobs. There is an annual cap of 66,000, but exemptions have resulted in as many as 129,547 in any given year. Dan Rather Reports, with the help of Policy Map, has put together an impressive database where you can search for companies that applied for H-2B foreign worker visas through the year 2009.

Utah: Illegal Alien Workers in Utah Get Free Pass With Immigration Reform Bill (HB469)

Utah: Illegal Alien Workers in Utah Get Free Pass With Immigration Reform Bill
Illegal Alien Workers in Utah will be allowed to apply for temporary legal residency under legislation signed into law last week. HB469, the Utah Pilot Sponsored Resident Immigrant Program Act, surprised politicians with its forward-thinking approach. Under the program, illegal aliens working in Utah can apply for legal temporary resident status if they pass a health and background check, and can show that they have not been convicted of or pled anything but not guilty to a felony or class A misdemeanor.
