TX: Sanctuary cities bill SB9 appears to be dead...Controversial legislation prohibiting "sanctuary city" policies in Texas appeared dead Monday after a House committee refused to report the measure out and Senate conferees on a separate fiscal matters bill refused to let it be included as an amendment. As the special session headed toward its last day on Wednesday, there was no other avenue for the sanctuary cities measure to get legislative approval despite the fact that it was a priority for Gov. Rick Perry and legislative leaders.

Mexican Invaders Cool to Perry....Placation doesn't work -- How about confrontation?
San Antonio, TX: Mexican Invaders Cool to Perry....Placation doesn't work -- How about confrontation? The applause lines often fell flat and the clamoring of silverware hardly yielded as Gov. Rick Perry spoke to hundreds of Hispanic leaders on Thursday...These Latinos oppose any attempt to control illegal immigration because they want to take over Texas and the Southwest. Will the Republicans find a candidate who will stand up against this frontal assault on our sovereignty - or will they chose another jerk who will just roll over?

TX: Gov. Rick Perry addresses Latino govt. officials group
TX: Gov. Rick Perry addresses Latino govt. officials group...Gov. Perry is expected to address the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) about the growing Hispanic population in Texas. -- The non-partisan group is holding its national convention in San Antonio. The country's changing demographics, growing educational needs and new sources of energy are the other main topics...Hispanic leaders in Texas have criticized Perry recently for sponsoring legislation that would require voters to produce a photo ID before voting and forcing local law police and sheriffs to enforce federal immigration laws. Critics say these measures will lead to racial profiling of Hispanics. [Perry addressing this group is like asking Arnold to address the Council for Abstainence Only. It's like David Duke addressing the NAACP]

TX: Gov. Rick Perry adds anti-groping bill to special session
TX: Gov. Rick Perry adds anti-groping bill to special session... announced he had added legislation that would make it illegal for TSA agents to engage in “intrusive touching” at airports security checkpoints without probable cause to the list of items for the legislature to consider during the special session. The measure had previously failed to muster enough support in the Texas Senate to come up for a vote because the Justice Department wrote a scathing memo against the bill, which threatened legal action against the state, and the measure became enmeshed in Senate politics. There are questions about what impact the legislation might have since airport security is a federal matter.

TX: New rules, new outcome as Senate OKs sanctuary cities bill SB9
TX: New rules, new outcome as Senate OKs sanctuary cities bill SB9..Sen. José Rodríguez, D-El Paso, said the bill's provisions are meant to keep the growing Latino population from taking its rightful place in the nation. "All three provisions are clearly anti-immigrant and anti-Latino," Rodríguez said. "All three would make it much more difficult for Latinos and immigrants to live in this country for fear of being racially profiled and being denied the benefits of living in this country." (HUH??)..The Senate gave preliminary approval to the bill Tuesday night and was working late to give final approval to the measure. After that, the bill will head to the House. There, the Republican supermajority is expected to slam the measure past House Democrats, just as it did in May. In all likelihood, the bill will end up on Perry's desk....

TX: SB9 Sanctuary Cities Moves Out of Senate Committee
TX: SB9 Sanctuary Cities Moves Out of Senate Committee...Less than a week after Gov. Rick Perry added the measure to the special session agenda, the contentious “sanctuary cities” bill is one step closer to what lawmakers see as its inevitable passage...seeks to prevent cities, counties and other special districts from banning law enforcement from inquiring into the status of individuals lawfully detained or arrested. The bill would also expand the federal government’s Secure Communities program to include all detention facilities (it’s currently in use in every county jail) and codify stricter guidelines for legal residents applying for state issued driver’s licenses or IDs.

Mexicans blast execution of criminal alien murderer in Texas
Mexicans blast execution of criminal alien murderer in TX...Mexicans on both sides of the U.S.-MX border are protesting the upcoming execution of a criminal alien rapist and murderer scheduled for July 7, 2011, in TX...Because the convicted killer is a MX citizen, the Calderon government is questioning the procedures that were utilized in sentencing the death row prisoner, Humberto Leal Garcia. The MX ambassador to the U.S. requested this week that TX Gov. Rick Perry delay the execution until a review is completed of the sentencing procedures..Besides Garcia, 50 other Mexicans are sitting on death rows in the U.S. ..the Obama administration, which supports the bill, has threatened to withhold federal funding from states that stray from the rules of international treaties. His position angers U.S. Constitutionalists because it places foreign law on a par with U.S. founding documents and U.S. jurisprudence..."The message these leftist politicians wish to send the world is: come to America, kill and rape. You will not be executed,"

TX: So-called sanctuary cities bill is back
TX: So-called sanctuary cities bill is back... Gov. Rick Perry today gave the legislature the authority to move forward with legislation that targets so-called sanctuary cities. The bill puts local governments at risk of losing state grant funding and being sued if they establish a policy that keeps law-enforcement and other employees from questioning the immigration status of people they detain or arrest. Under the bill, individual officers could enforce immigration laws, even if their bosses believe that duty should stay within the purview of the federal government

TX: Texans! Special legislative session called
TX: Texans! Special legislative session called..The 81st Legislature ended with a Democrat filibuster of a key budget bill preventing it's passage. Dewhurst already announced that the 2/3 rule will not be in effect.... [Note: Also demand they take up the bill that would make groping by the TSA a felony] SB1811 and SB23 have been added but you need to demand that they add: HB 12 -- Anti-Sanctuary City AND HB 1275 E-Verify/ HB 608 -- Cost of benefits to illegal aliens

TX: Special Session may bring up immigration bills
TX: Special Session may bring up immigration bills... A state representative from Tomball has filed three pieces of legislation that would criminalize illegal aliens and those who employ them, but the legislation won't get a hearing unless Gov. Rick Perry adds the topic to his agenda for the current special legislative session. Perry recalled the Legislature to work on unresolved issues..Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who presides over the Senate, has called on Perry to allow lawmakers to take up illegal immigration issues and said the governor was considering it.
"We'll see what he does on Monday," Dewhurst said.

TX: E-Verify Bill May Find New Life in Special Session...A decision by the U.S. Supreme Court last week upholding an Arizona law that punishes employers who hire illegal immigrants may give Texas lawmakers some newfound momentum to file immigration-related legislation with the hope that the governor adds the topic to the special session now underway.

ALERT for TX: IRCOT ACTION ALERT FOR TUESDAY, MAY 31, 2011
ALERT for TX: IRCOT ACTION ALERT FOR TUESDAY, MAY 31, 2011...Texas Constitution requires the Legislature to pass a budget, and a Special Session has been called by the Governor to start today. Lt. Gov. Dewhurst already announced that the 2/3 rule will not be in effect. This would mean that only a simple majority, or 16 votes, would be required to pass a bill in the Senate. This is the opportunity that we need to pass important immigration related bills. However, the very latest word is that only 2 bills, SB 1811 and SB 23 have been added to the special session charge!
A request from IRCOT was sent to the Governor asking for the addition of 3 key immigration bills to the special session charge! Now, we need your calls and faxes to Gov. Perry! Ask him to add: HB 12 -- Anti-Sanctuary City AND HB 1275 E-Verify HB 608 -- Cost of benefits to illegal aliens

Texas Hispanic senators (Dems) gearing up for bitter fight on Sanctuary City Bill
Texas Hispanic senators (Dems) gearing up for bitter fight on Sanctuary City Bill...The bill would give most police officers the right to question detained people about their immigration status and prohibit cities from adopting policies that ban the practice. Supporters include Republican Gov. Rick Perry. They say it's needed to stop crime committed by illegal aliens. Critics say it would lead to racial profiling and allow police to harass Latinos. A Senate hearing on the bill is scheduled Wednesday in the Committee on Transportation and Homeland Security

Bill affecting Texas indigent care for legal immigrants headed to governor
Bill affecting Texas indigent care for legal immigrants headed to governor.. measure requires legal permanent U.S. residents to provide additional proof they are impoverished before qualifying for state indigent care services...the bill allows individual counties to check the financial resources of the U.S. citizen who sponsored a permanent resident's entry into the country before allowing the green-card holder access to indigent care services. If the sponsor has the resources to finance treatment, the person they sponsored wouldn't be eligible for indigent care.
