South Carolina: Police status checks to become law

South Carolina: Police status checks to become law...The bill also will create a statewide illegal immigrant police force, operating under the state Department of Public Safety..In most cases, a valid S.C. driver’s license will be enough for individuals to prove they are in the country legally..a driver’s license would not be good enough for S.C. business owners who want to hire a new worker. Under the bill passed by the S.C. House Tuesday, business owners must run the name of all new employees through a federal database – called E-verify – to ensure they are in the country legally. If business owners fail to use the system or if they intentionally employ illegal workers, they could be shut down..the bill is headed to Gov. Nikki Haley’s desk..The Republican governor will sign the proposal into law
