Phoenix Ditching Polling Places for 'Voting Centers'...city's 128 polling places are being eliminated in favor of 26 "voting centers" scattered around the city. last few city elections, between 90 and 96 percent of the votes were cast by mail.
The city expects to save 15-20% on its elections, amounting to about $250,000 per election. Under the new system, which will be in effect ONLY for CITY elections – mayor, city council, and citywide referenda – voters who choose not to submit their ballot by mail may go to any of the voting centers to fill out and cast a ballot. You won't be limited to going to a particular polling place near your house.
