Ga. House Passes Immigration Bill HB 87, Heads to Governor

Ga. House Passes Immigration Bill HB 87, Heads to Governor...bill would authorize law enforcement officers to verify the immigration status of certain criminal suspects and allows them to detain those found to be in the country illegally. It would also penalize people who “knowingly and intentionally” transport or harbor illegal aliens. It also would require employers with 10 or more employees to use a federal database called E-Verify to check the immigration status of new hires.

  2. GA Gov. Deal tells AJC he intends to sign immigration bill
Gov. Nathan Deal told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday that the immigration bill adopted by the General Assembly appears to meet his criteria for necessary and needed changes.

Deal said he will review the legislation, House Bill 87, to be sure, "but at least the broad parameters of what we know are there appear to be consistent with what we would be agreeable to."
