Fremont, Nebraska: Depositions to begin in ACLU/MALDEF suit against Fremont...Lawsuits filed by the ACLU and the MALDEF against the ordinance that would ban hiring of or renting to illegal aliens were combined and are scheduled for trial in U.S. District Court in April 2012. Both lawsuits essentially claim the ordinance violates the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution, various clauses of the 14th Amendment, the Fair Housing Act, and exceeds the city's authority under the Nebraska Constitution.
