AZ Gov. Jan Brewer picks Washington lawyer for SB1070 appeal - The state must file its appeal by July 12..The Supreme Court likely will announce in the fall whether it will consider the appeal. Paul Clement as lead counsel in the Supreme Court case on the law known as SB1070. Clement served as the federal government’s top appellate lawyer from 2005 to 2008 during the presidency of George W. Bush. Clement is now in private practice. It’s common for top appellate lawyers with significant experience in practicing before the U.S. Supreme Court to argue Supreme Court cases previously handled by other lawyers.
