Tucson, AZ: Pima separatists launch statehood petition drive (Baja, AZ)...While much of the media (read: the Daily Show is in town) treats possible statehood for Southern Arizona as a prank, members of a group seeking to separate from Arizona say they're serious..Serious enough to begin a petition drive, seeking to put a resolution on the ballot that would ask the Legislature to allow Pima County to seek statehood..The initiative, which would appear on the November 2012 ballot if enough signatures are collected, wouldn't directly seek to create a new state.
