U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta likes E-Verify, BUT opposes proposed E-Verify bill by Lamar Smith(R-TX), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee

U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta likes E-Verify, BUT opposes proposed E-Verify bill by Lamar Smith(R-TX), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee...Barletta likes E-Verify as a tool for discouraging people to enter or remain in the U.S. without authorization.
He, however, dislikes the bill, which he said pre-empts states and municipalities like Hazleton from requiring their employers to use E-Verify. If the bill becomes law, businesses that hire illegal aliens only could lose licenses after a federal finding is reached, a requirement that Barletta believes would effectively block enforcement.

  1. H.R.693 - E-Verify Modernization Act of 2011
    sponsored by Representative John Gingrey(R-GA)
(THIS IS THE ONE WE WANT TO SUPPORT, NOT Lamar Smith's HR2164) HR693 is also supported by Rep. Lou Barletta...that should tell you something!

To amend the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (8 U.S.C. 1324a note) to make the E-Verify Program permanent and mandatory, and to provide for certain changes to procedures for participants in the Program.
