Suffolk County, NY: Suffolk to stay in Secure Communities

Suffolk County, NY: Suffolk to stay in Secure Communities...Despite an announcement Wednesday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo that New York would no longer be participating in the federal Secure Communities program that facilitates the deportation of illegal aliens convicted of crimes, Suffolk County officials have stated they will continue its own Secure Communities order...Upon learning of Cuomo’s announcement, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy, long an outspoken advocate for stricter immigration laws, lambasted the governor’s decision. “This is a horrendous setback for anyone interested in enforcing our immigration laws,” Levy said. “It is special interest politics taking precedence over our homeland’s security. It is unseemly for a state to tell the federal government it will fight them in their efforts to keep our nation safe.”
