IL. State DREAM Act To Get Vote Today SB2185

IL. State DREAM Act To Get Vote Today SB2185...SB2185 passed the state House executive committee on a party line vote of 7 to 4 on Tuesday. It’s now moved to the House floor for a vote, and Nathan Ryan of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) said the vote is likely to happen Wednesday. The state House of Representatives has 64 Democrats and 54 Republicans set to cast their vote, so the bill is highly likely to pass with the 60 votes necessary --with or without the GOP on board.

  1. Senate Passes Illinois DREAM Act

The Illinois State Senate voted 45-11 Wednesday to pass the Illinois DREAM act and make available scholarships to thousands of illegal aliens.

The Illinois Dream Act, sponsored by state Senate President John Cullerton, will make scholarships available to illegal alien students through an Illinois Dream Fund that is privately funded. It would also encourage high school counselors and college admissions officers to be trained on educational opportunities for illegal alien youths.

Nearly 90,000 students in the state would benefit from the Dream Act
