Phoenix/Mesa, AZ: Group wanting Senator Russell Pearce's recall will file TODAY

Phoenix/Mesa, AZ: Group wanting Senator Russell Pearce's recall will file TODAY...(MAY THE PETITIONERS FALL FLAT ON THEIR FACES!) A committee seeking to force a recall election of Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce says it will file petition signatures on Tuesday, the filing deadline. If the group files enough valid signatures of voters from the Mesa Republican's legislative district, the recall election would be held in November or March. (make note: Somos Republicans (Dee Dee Garcia Blase), Arizona Hispanic Republicans, Arizona Compact, Citizens for a Better Arizona are behind the recall and they worked the Mormon Congregation in Mesa to sign petitions against Sen. Russell Pearce)

  1. Pearce last week told The Associated Press he was taking the possibility of a recall seriously, but said he wasn't worried about losing his seat. He also said the recall attempt was "silly" because he already must run again in 2012 to keep his seat.

"We have a two-year leash on our legislators," Pearce said.

A lawyer who mounted an unsuccessful primary election challenge to Pearce in 2008 said he doubted Pearce would lose a recall election.

Kevin Gibbons, who lost to Pearce by a 2-to-1 margin, said the Senate president would likely start a recall election campaign with a strong support base in the Republican-leaning district, despite dissatisfaction among business owners and others.

He also would enjoy a fundraising advantage, Gibbons said Friday. "I don't think the numbers are there."
