NC: Groups Mobilize to Pass Legislation in NC to Control Illegal Immigration...Several national and statewide groups are asking supporters to call members of the North Carolina General Assembly today to lobby lawmakers to pass three bills that could help curtail illegal immigration in the state. HB36, which requires businesses with more than 24 employees to use the E-verify program to prevent illegal alien hiring, is scheduled for a vote by the NC State House today at 2pm. HB 643 is a voter ID bill that would help prevent more illegal aliens from voting illegally in NC elections and will be discussed at 11am by members of the House Appropriations committee. SB 205, which would stop illegal aliens from receiving taxpayer benefits like welfare, will be voted on in the Senate Judiciary 2 committee this afternoon at 4:30.
