Georgia: Hearing set on attempt to block GA immigration law (HB87)

Georgia: Hearing set on attempt to block GA immigration law (HB87)...A federal judge on Friday set a June 20 hearing for arguments on an attempt by civil liberties groups to block Georgia's law cracking down on illegal immigration from taking effect. The groups earlier this week asked Judge Thomas Thrash(On January 7, 1997, Thrash was nominated by Bill Clinton to a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of GA) to block the law from taking effect until a lawsuit they filed last week has been resolved. That lawsuit asked the judge to find the law unconstitutional and to keep authorities from enforcing it. Thrash agreed to the plaintiffs' request to expedite the hearing because most parts of the law take effect July 1.
